For the last year Akhmed Zakayev (43) has been traveling Europe to get European politicians and governments to assume a mediator role that can inititate peace negotiations between the Russian and Chechen governments.
Before the first Russian assault on Chechnya in 1994 Akhmed Zakaev was the most celebrated actor in Chechnya.
Zakayev taken into custody
The night of Oct 30, after the World Chechen Congress in Copenhagen, Zakayev was arrested on Russian request through Interpol. He was taken in custody to Tuesday, Nov 12. The Kremlin has been given to Nov 30 to fabricate evidence. It is unclear what will happen in the meantime.

The British expert on European extradition cases, Mike Schwartz, and the American expert on international law, professor Francis Boyle, have also offered their assistance.
Zakaev considers asylum
According to the Chechen Ambassador to Denmark, Ousman Ferzaouli, Zakaev is considering seeking political asylum in Denmark. If so, he might be extradited to another one of the countries he has visited earlier. Zakayev entered Denmark with a schengen visa issued by the Belgian Embassy in London. He also carries British and Swiss visa.
